Sunday, when it was nice, Mom and Pawpa also went to Saville Dam in Barkhamsted where Compensating Reservoir empties into Lake McDonough. Mom wanted to take more pictures but the parking areas were inexplicably closed. Looking to see if there were "no parking" signs and seeing none, she and Pawpa parked alongside the road next to one of the parking areas with some other cars until they were "advised to leave" by a MDC (Metropolitan District Commission) policeman. People used to go there all the time to take photos as it is a beautiful area but I guess we are no longer welcome although their website still reads as follows: "Visit the Saville Dam. No matter what the season, look out on scenic Barkhamsted Reservoir from the top of Saville Dam on Route 318 (just 1/4 mile from its intersection with Route 219)". Although there is parking at the lake, it is really too far to walk back to the dam to "look out on scenic Barkhamsted". Mom was disappointed that she did not get a picture of the beautiful doors on the gatehouse.
This is the gatehouse.
The water flows down the spillway from the reservoir and under the roadway.
It comes out here and flows down to the lake.

You have such beautiful scenery in your area..........great pics.
That lake is so blue against all the greenery. Dam gates make it look like a castle's moat. :)
You did have a beautiful day at a lovely spot. Great photos.
