The sun is shining brightly through the trees highlighting the remaining leaves. It's a crisp 29 degrees fahrenheit. No birds are perched on or below the backyard feeder as they normally would be in the morning. A downy woodpecker that has taken up residence in the birdhouse attached to the top of the wisteria arbor is nowhere to be seen. Last night, the black bear returned managing to eat the suet cakes and all the seeds in the feeder before we chased it away with some loud bangs. Dawn reveals the extent of damage to the pole, suet cages, and feeder as well as damage to the pole that held the finch feeder full of thistle. The feeder has disappeared.
