It’s fixed!

Pawpa rebuilt the feeder pole so it he could put the feeder back up for the birds. Some of them were pretty happy to find it was filled up with food. He didn’t put any suet in yet though. We’re hoping that will keep the bear from coming around to rip it down again.

Traveling Turtle

We drove by this big fellow the other day while we were out. He was S-L-O-W-L-Y making his way to a nearby stream.

I wish I were …..

An Oscar Mayer Wiener!

When Pawpa and Mom were driving down the road a couple days ago, they saw a yellow and orange vehicle driving past them.

license plate

Mom was very disappointed that she didn’t have her camera with her as it was VERY peculiar looking. It was the Wienermobile.

sign

She looked on the internet to see where it had been and discovered it would be in one more CT location on Thursday. She asked Pawpa if he would take her there so she could get some pictures. Isn’t it cute?

Folder Foto..

This is a picture of the much photographed First Congregational Church of Litchfield. Mom says she probably should have put up one of "those" photos because she just could not get the whole steeple from the car.

Welcome to the Canton Lobsterfest

Mom and Pawpa went off to the Lobsterfest without me. (Mom tried to get the whole picture painted on the wall but she ain't real good with that IPhone camera.)

They meet friends there every year and just as Mom got in the end of the line, she called her friend and said "where are you?". Last night, they were very, very lucky. Mom's friend had just reached the ticket booth so she got their tickets and Mom walked to the front of the line and paid her back. They only had to wait 10 minutes for the doors to open.

Look at the line when they were leaving!

Inquiring Minds Want to Know ..

  1. Why Pawpa has left his shorts in this corner for DAYS? (I think we all know the answer to that.)
  2. Why Gizzy's Mom has left them there? (Gizzy's Mom does not throw HER clothes on the floor; she puts them where they belong.)
  3. Why Gizzy has decided that he MUST sleep in this corner all night? (I thought maybe he'd hidden a milkbone under the pants but I checked and there is nothing there.)

Handcrafted Coffee Table

Pawpa and my "hooman brudder" refinish furniture to sell at antique co-ops. My "brudder" also makes farm tables, benches, bookcases, and coffee tables. He makes the table tops from old lumber. This is one of the coffee tables he made. Nice, huh!

Empty Feeder

We still haven't replaced the feeder in the backyard since the raccoon toppled it off the pole. We are waiting until cold weather in the hopes that the bear will have found other places to look for food before he or she hunkers down to hibernate for the winter.

This feeder is on the side of the house by the patio. Pawpa doesn't like this one because it's bigger and heavier than the other one and harder to fill with seeds. It sits empty while a vine winds itself up the base and extends off the top. Is this Jack's beanstalk? Will it keep going til it reaches the sky?

Grapes

There are grapes growing on the side of the house. We can't reach them because the vine is up in a tree about 15 feet off the ground. The birds, however, can reach them. Apparently they are "good eating" thus the ground beneath the vine is not a pretty site.

A piece of Pawpa

If Pawpa MUST go out without me, I'll just nap here on top of his shorts and wait for him to come back to get them.

The Gift

Pawpa must have felt bad because Mom was in pain. He came home with a gift and hung it on the wall where she could see it right away. Mom was kinda happy. It is very pretty!

He brought her a chocolate candy too!

Pipe Pipsqueaks

We haven't had very many Indian Pipes growing this year; it's been too dry. These two tiny ones were growing by the stream.

Whoops, she did it again!

Mom took THIS picture to show Pawpa all the apples in the tree across the street. He was worried there were no apples on the tree. The deer go over there to eat them in the fall when the apples fall to the ground.

Gizzy's Mom must offer her apologies. She was going to go out to take new pictures...she WAS. Here's what happened. Before she left the house, she started to perform a normal task .. changing sheets on the bed. How hard is that? She thought she experienced no unusual difficulties while bending over to tuck the sheets in firmly at the foot of the bed. After all, she been doing that for almost 50 years. But then ..... but .....THEN ... she went to straighten up. UH-OH! That smarts, she thought. WHAT DID I DO? Whatever it was, it didn't hurt when she did it. But NOW? Oh yeah ... OUCH ... big, BIG ouch. She seems to have done "something" that caused the muscles in the backs of her legs (and derriere) to hurt .. a lot. (She is more used to BEING a pain in the butt ... not HAVING a pain in the butt.)

Rather than go on "hiatus"... AGAIN ... she may use some pix that have been languishing in her "pictures" folder. Today's picture is "one of those". She apologizes as there was a reason it was languishing there.

The time is nigh....

ACORN SEASON

First there is ... one.

Then there is ... two.

Next thing you know, you're diving for cover as
little pellets plummet down upon you from above.

"Deer Run" Hydrangea

The farmhouse across the street is long gone. The hydrangea remains. The lot was divided in two and the address changed to "Deer Run". I love the mop-heads on this large bush.

Isn't this bloom pretty?

Lonely Echinacea

After taking 10 days of doxycycline for a presumed tick bite, Gizzy's Mom was unwilling to risk walking into the brush for a closer shot of the single echinacea in the field across the street. Too many deer ticks in there.

Mantle dwellers .. part 2

Recently, Tootie over at Ninny's Notes pulled our name in a "give away" honoring post #300 and we got 2 tiny rabbits. They arrived safely from Oklahoma and now they are frolicking with the 3 little pigs on the fireplace mantle. Thanks Ninny!

Some people collect hats

Or T-shirts.
"Gizzy's Mom" likes rocks ... and sometimes SAND!

We have a bottle full of pink sand from a cruise to Bermuda

... and rocks from Higgins Beach in Maine.

She never knows what to do with them when she gets home .

For now, they sit on the mantle with the bottle angel.

A return to the job at hand

My vigilance has returned after yesterday's humiliating experience. Pawpa is hard at work and I must protect his feet from THAT woman. I'd bite her but I think she's the one who cooks my chicken.

Caught Napping !!

Mom came outside to take pictures of me helping Pawpa.

THAT was unexpected, to say the least.

Lost in place

Pawpa powerwashed the house last Wednesday. When Mom went out to see how it was going, he was found thrashing the bushes and tromping the pachysandra by the garage. One of the four power-spray nozzles fell off the hose ... um ... somewhere in that vicinity. Mom helped. (She said some words that might have been naughty, too.) The nozzle remains unfound. Do you think we have any chance of finding it?

If you're lucky, you keep learning

This is a dogwood flower.
I didn't know that before.

I thought THIS was a dogwood flower. Not so, I read today. The "petals" are really "bracts" and the center is actually the flower. Who knew? Apparently, NOT Gizzy's Mom.

Squirrels love dogwood flowers. Thus I've been treated by displays of courage and derring-do by suicidal squirrels attempting to grab the flowers at the very edge of the branch. The tenuous hold is lost as the branch dips with the weight of the squirrel as it approached the end of the line. This one went "kerplop" a few minutes after I took the picture.

Unfortunately the limbs are very close to my window and any attempt of mine to quietly remove the screen so that I can get a clear shot .. has been .. unsuccessful. This was as good as it got.
