If you're lucky, you keep learning

This is a dogwood flower.
I didn't know that before.

I thought THIS was a dogwood flower. Not so, I read today. The "petals" are really "bracts" and the center is actually the flower. Who knew? Apparently, NOT Gizzy's Mom.

Squirrels love dogwood flowers. Thus I've been treated by displays of courage and derring-do by suicidal squirrels attempting to grab the flowers at the very edge of the branch. The tenuous hold is lost as the branch dips with the weight of the squirrel as it approached the end of the line. This one went "kerplop" a few minutes after I took the picture.

Unfortunately the limbs are very close to my window and any attempt of mine to quietly remove the screen so that I can get a clear shot .. has been .. unsuccessful. This was as good as it got.

I never knew that either!
You'd think with the petals ON it was the flower!
Geez, I think squirrels must eat anything if it isn't nailed down!
They are great gymnasts that's for sure!

I thought they were good pics and good info.
We leave some of our screens off our windows for that "shot".
