Just as Mom was thinking "what the heck will I do for a blog tomorrow?", there was a rattle and a crash in the back yard. Presto, Wednesday's bloggie.
Here's the problem.... this is a NEW bear. This bear has tags. One in each ear. The feeder raider in weeks gone by had no tags. None. Nada. Zilch. Double the trouble. Less of the fun.

Mom is a WINNER
Well, of course there are those would say "SHE SURE IS'! And...you'd have to wonder if there might be just a tad of sarcasm in that. But... no ... I mean Mom was the top bidder and won her prize at the Saturday night auction at the Canton Barn. She thought this crackle glazed Mom and baby rabbit statue was very cute so she had Pawpa bid on it for her and she WON. Yep, she did. She says just a little bit of gentle soap and water and they'll be good to go to a place of honor in the living room. Well ... just as soon as she finds one. (She better make sure she doesn't inconvenience ME!).

One, Two, Three, Four?
We've got a lot of clover in the yard. Wouldn't it be nice if there were a few good luck four-leaf clovers in there?

Now See Here ..
You can see and I can't.
My bangs are too long; I need a trim.
And ... my haircut isn't until the end of July.
Doesn't ANYONE have a scrunchy???

Triple H day
Dr. Mel, our local weatherman, said yesterday was a Triple H day. I believe him. Mom was sitting around doin' nothin' with her feets up. So was Pawpa. I decided I was just gonna do nothin' too ... in the hallway ... in front of the window ... tummy down ... feets on the ground.

Hot Day
It was a hot day today so Mom didn't go out to take pictures of the unusual mushrooms Pawpa and I told her about. Instead, she hung out at the supermarket where it was cool. Since I was too warm to be interesting, there are no new pix of me either. We were all kind of "wilting" in the heat ... even this pretty pink rose.

Helping Pawpa
Yesterday afternoon, Pawpa was outside with his book about chairs. We were trying to figure out where the chair was made. He told Mom it had something to do with the "turnings". He brought me outside so I could help him. I believe I was being VERY helpful. Mom snickered when I told her that.

A touch of pink
Mom and Pawpa went out to breakfast yesterday morning and the fat and fuzzy visitor dropped by while they were gone. Of course the feeder is on the ground once again and the birds have been making a racket about THAT all afternoon. Mom thinks it would be very nice if we could stick the feeder in THIS bush and maybe he wouldn't touch it. He probably wouldn't care though.

Fence Flowers
These flowers (not dandelions) were by the fence before Pawpa got a new lawnmower and mowed 'em down.

Hard To Please
Last summer I was moaning that my hydrangea bush had NO flowers. This year, I have plenty of flowers.
Why is that I am now moaning because of the 4 hydrangea bushes I once had .. the one bush that survived bad winters and roofers gone wild .. is the one whose blooms I liked the least?
I ask myself, am I the kind of person who is "difficult" and hard to please? The kind of person who always wants what they don't have. My flowers ARE nice.
And yet .. and yet .. at night, when I sleep, I plan hydrangea heists in my dreams where I liberate the bush with the large blooms up the road in the vacant lot.
*roofers gone wild: My favorite plant was close to the back of the house, in a pot, waiting to be replanted after we moved from our old house. When we got a new roof, the roofers threw the old shingles off the roof to the ground. The peony survived the deluge. The hydrangea didn't.

Scenic Sunday
Mykonos Stairway
A friend just returned from a cruise to Greece, Italy, and Turkey and she took lots of pictures. She graciously granted me permission to use a few that I really liked. Thanks Sue Ann.

Upgrade? Where?
I read in a local paper that our neighborhood park was being upgraded and volunteers had helped to clear out "brush". They completely removed a "fire" bush on the side of the building that was a beautiful red in the fall. Since they were painting the building, perhaps they felt that was necessary and I can see that it might have been. But .. I am truly dismayed by what has happened in the front of the community building. The "brush" they removed was not "brush". It was almost all of the flowers that bloomed every year and beautified the plain, brown building.
AFTER
This is how it looks after the "upgrade". I understand this is only "phase one" but this has been barren looking for at least a month and I feel sad every time I look at it. I feel sure there MUST have been a reason for this but I truly don't know what it could have been.Thursday, June 10, 2010
Backyard View
Stand at the arbor out back ...
Look through that space.
That one there .. on the left side ...
Second space from the top ...
Oh! There it is. The covered bridge.

Not Just Dirt (don't look Liz)
I was not having any luck getting a picture of the birds bathing in the stream when I saw this little guy crossing the yard. He's lucky I saw him at all since he is the color of dirt.

A Special Treat
A special occasion occurred yesterday. BirdingRVers, Kathy and Grant, traveled though CT on the way to their next adventure and Pawpa and Mom met them for lunch at a nearby restaurant. Mom and Kathy have been emailing each other for about a year and it was so nice to meet for the first time.
They got to meet Raider the RV dog too!
He said "hello" very nicely.

Peony Update
I'm glad I got pix of the peonies when I did because the rain poured down a few hours later. This is how they look now. Time to cut the two "droopers" and bring them in.

Pawpa's Newest Acquisition
Pawpa loves rhododendrons. The peoples up the road live in big houses and they have peoples come in trucks to mow their lawns and arrange their gardens. Since they pay for perfect landscaping, Pawpa often finds discarded bushes dumped unceremoniously off the road into the woods by peoples who don't want to wait for them to recover just because they don't look nice. Pawpa found a rhody to rescue yesterday and brought it home.
Sure some of it is beat up but look closely, there are new shoots on it already. Pawpa thinks he can save it. He might be right.
